Mary (Mazurick) Kapish, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated her 97th birthday on Sunday.
Born on Aug. 29, 1913 in Mahanoy City, she also resided in West Hazleton and Hazleton Heights.
She was married to her husband, Andrew Kapish for 49 years until his passing in 1981. They had one son, Calvin "Jackie" Kapish who passed away in 2001.
Larry and Ann Marie DeLauretis of Tamaqua have announced the engagement of their daughter, Heather, to Jeffrey Zazycki, son of Raymond and Dorothy Zazycki of Drums.
The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Bloomsburg University.
Her fiance is attending Lehigh Carbon Community College, working toward a degree in food production and management.

A 70th Anniversary Reunion Picnic was held Aug. 21 by the Class of 1940 of Tamaqua High School. Carl Hafer hosted an old-fashioned picnic at the Knights of Columbus, Coaldale. Fourteen class members and 25 guests attended. Classmates attending were, seated from left, Margaret Demichele Mettenet, Harrisburg; Julia Constantine Quici, Berwin; Ruth Deem Brown, Tamaqua; Fern Clemson Kelton, New Town Square; and Fern DeArmit Edwards, Lake Milton, Ohio.
A daughter, Isabella Lucia Rose D'Ancona, was born at 12:42 p.m. on June 5, 2010, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, to Regina Marie (Turner) and Marco D'Ancona of, Nesquehoning. She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19.25 inches long.
Isabella was welcomed home by her older siblings, Agostino, 11; and Vincenzo, 10.
Maternal grandparents are Mary Ann Bubon, Tamaqua; and Victor and Elaine Turner of Jim Thorpe.
Paternal grandmother is Lucia D'Ancona of Lansford.
Jenyne Scarpati, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome P. Scarpati of Jim Thorpe, became the bride of Robert Paul Podlinski Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Podlinski Sr., of Cherry Hill, N.J. on Sept. 26, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe.
Monsignor John Chizmar and the Rev. James Ward concelebrated the double ring ceremony.
Kristine Betz was the organist, while Darryl Seiwell played the trumpet and Debra Reilly played the violin. Jeanette Richards was the soloist.
