The Western Pocono Lioness Club voted to send a memorial donation to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network in remembrance of the late Lioness Betty Ford, a much deserving PVEN volunteer. She died this August.
The group will next meet for a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 28, with Dr. Bryn, chiropractor, from Life is Good Chiropractic, speaking to the group.
PV Band Parents
Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, at the high school in Brodheadsville.
Sunday School will restart on Sept. 12 at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown at 10:30 a.m. There are Sunday School classes for children of preschool age to adults. Please consider joining them for the start of a new Sunday School year.
Church worship service is at 9 a.m. every Sunday.
Confirmation classes
Confirmation classes will begin at St. Matthew's on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. Anyone who is at least in 7th grade is invited to attend. If you have any questions, call 610-381-2442.
Western Pocono Lioness will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the American Legion on Route 209 in Gilbert. A program by Coldwater Creek, with models from the Lioness Club, will be the evening's feature.

There will not be a meeting of the Chestnut Ridge Seniors on Thursday, Aug. 26 because of the West End Fair. Please join them on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. as they celebrate Labor Day with hot dogs, ice cream and bingo.
The Polk Township Historical Society will introduce the Jonas Bake Oven to the public at the West End Fair. Built around 1790, the Bake Oven was moved from the Hotel Jonas to the fairgrounds in mid-March 2010. It is now housed just outside the West End Fair Museum near the main stage area. Members of the historical society will be on hand with information and to answer questions. Stop by and help them welcome this invaluable piece of history to its new home. The Western Pocono Lions Club will hold it's regular meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the social hour, with Tammy Graeber of McMichaels of the Garden of Giving as the featured speaker.
Graeber was the featured speaker at last week's meeting of the Monroe County Interagency Council, where she reported how the Garden is impacting what foods three area food pantries are giving their clients and how the Garden helps supply soup kitchens.
St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown will hold its monthly Contemporary Service on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
Confirmation classes
St. Matthew's will register and begin Confirmation classes on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sunday School. If you would like to register your child, he/she should be at least in seventh grade. If you have any questions, contact the church office at (610) 381-2442.
The West End Rotary Club will welcome Rotary District Governor Bob Wehe and AG John Davis at its Aug. 12 club meeting. That will be the official club visit by the Rotary District leadership.
The club meets for breakfast at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville at 7:30 a.m. Thursday mornings.
School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, at the district office in Brodheadsville.
On Friday, Aug. 20, SSP will be making the last of the filling at Polk Township Firehouse at 7 a.m.
If you are unable to help prepare filling or cabbage, there are items you could donate, like vinegar in the gallon size, five or 10 pounds of sugar, five or 10 pounds of flour, or jars of molasses. Any questions, ask Linda Hinton.
Food offering
A food offering is held every first Sunday to help feed the hungry in the West End.
The Chestnuthilll board of supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the township municipal building on Route 715.
UMW picnic
United Methodist Women of Effort UMC will host the Eighth United Methodist Women Family Picnic for the congregational "family" at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, at the church. The UMW will provide the meats and drinks, but other UMC host attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share.
